Doug Ronning, MA, RDT/BCT
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Registered Drama Therapist/Board Certified Trainer recognized by the North American Drama Therapy Association. In addition to psychotherapy services, I also provide clinical supervision to pre-licensed practitioners and offer professional consultations. I hold a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies. I have been practicing psychotherapy since 2005 and working in private practice since 2009.
For over five years, I worked with individuals, couples and families through Ohlhoff Recovery Programs, as Program Director for Ohlhoff Outpatient Programs in San Francisco and as a Counselor at the Skip Byron 28-Day Residential Program. For several years, I worked as the Clinical Supervisor for the youth counseling program at Westside Community Services in San Francisco.
Prior to becoming a psychotherapist, I worked as a professional screenwriter, as well as in event planning and project management. Through these work experiences, I utilized some of the tools for fostering creativity, effective communication, and stress management that I use with clients today.
I offer services for adolescents, adults, couples, and families. I specialize in working with neurodivergent folx, creative professionals, and people coping or struggling with anxiety, compulsive disorders, grief, life transitions, and relationship challenges.
I also facilitate RPG Groups and Pro-social Gaming Events through Gamescape Center for Creativity and Growth.
In addition to my work as a clinician, I teach therapists-in-training as an Assistant Professor and Core Faculty at the California Institute of Integral Studies.
Finally, I produce the event series Monster Movie Salon, workshops which combine communal film viewing, engaging dialogue, personal writing, art making, and dramatic play.
